Washington-based Puget Sound Energy announced on Tuesday the completion of their Beaver Creek Wind Farm in Stillwater County, as part of a required transition to clean energy.

In July of last year, the company stated they would give up their 370-megawatt share of the Colstrip plant to NorthWestern Energy at no cost to the Montana monopoly on Jan. 1, 2026 , allowing NorthWestern to gain majority ownership of the coal plant. The state of Washington’s Clean Energy Act required utilities in the state to eliminate all coal-based electricity from their portfolios by the start of 2026.

The Beaver Creek Wind Farm, which is 21 north of Reed Point, near Rapelje, will initially produce 248 megawatts, equivalent to the power of about 83,000 homes.
