CHICAGO — Over the last month, the city's Southwest Side has reportedly experienced the worst flooding events in over a decade.
Residents in several communites have had their basements flooded and homes damaged by recent heavy rain and storms.
City leaders want to ensure residents can access resources.
"I've called for this area to be declared a disaster zone. So that flow can directly flow to the residents who need it. Congress in partnership with state and local leaders have been able to secure $426 million for Chicago alone, and $244 million for Cook County, including $96 million for communities like Cicero, for disaster recovery and flood mitigation. These investments are the start, but only matter if families can access them," said Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García.
