Metro Nashville Council members debated whether to defer the proposal for one more meeting, with some noting that neighbors still felt left out of the bulk of the planning process.

The path ahead is clear for a major zoning overhaul in the Nations.

On Aug. 19, the Metro Nashville Council voted 25-9 to approve the rezoning of nearly 300 acres worth of properties in the neighborhood to zoning categories that allow for higher housing density. Council members Joy Kimbrough, Jennifer Webb, Jeff Eslick, Thom Druffel, Courtney Johnston, David Benton, Tasha Ellis, John Rutherford and Antoinette Lee voted against the rezoning; Jennifer Gamble abstained.
