Construction continued on the Bremer Avenue bridge in August despite rain affecting river levels.
The eastern pier of the bridge—the second of two—was completed Aug. 14, according to Pete Hjelmstad, field services coordinator for the Iowa DOT.
“Weather and water levels permitting, we hope to be setting beams a week from today,” he said Aug. 20.
River levels
Recent storms have caused local rivers to rise. As of press time Aug. 20, the Cedar River upstream in Charles City had crested at 1:45 a.m. in minor flood stage, at 13.48 feet.
Downstream in Janesville, the river was expected to crest at 10.4 feet Thursday morning, below flood stage.
In Shell Rock, the Shell Rock River was at 12.43 feet at press time Wednesday, with an expected crest of 12.6 feet Wednesday evening, just into minor
