CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) – It has taken 12 years, but Clarksville police have found a key suspect in a double homicide with some unexpected help from federal Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE).
Carlos Alberto Bonilla-Canenguez was in custody in an ICE facility in Georgia, due to be deported to El Salvador. Clarksville police said that is when a records checked flagged Bonilla-Canenguez in the 2013 case. A 12-year search for a double murder suspect ended when he was arrested and detained in Georgia.
“So eventually, immigration customs enforcement got a hold us and told us what was going on,” Corporal Justice Kraft, a Clarksville police spokesman, said. “We had a detective go down there and take a DNA sample from Mr. Bonilla. And that was ultimately sent off to our lab where it was
