A Fort Bend County sheriff’s deputy has been terminated from his job after a grand jury indicted him on a criminal charge of sexual assault.
According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Whitney Johnson III was indicted on Monday.
"Deputy Johnson was terminated on the date of this indictment and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement was notified of his arrest," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "The allegation was for off-duty conduct and was investigated by the Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs section and the District Attorney's Office."
Sexual assault is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
"We hold our employees to the highest standards, and this alleged misconduct is
