JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) is advising the community to be aware of an increase in mosquito-borne activity in parts of the county.
A press release by the DOH states that several chickens have tested positive for the West Nile virus infection.
The Center of Disease Control says the following about the West Nile virus:
West Nile virus can result in mild illness with flu-like symptoms or severe illness that affects the central nervous system or results in hospitalization or death.
The CDC also states that there is no treatment for the virus; however, there are ways of relieving symptoms, such as rest, fluid and pain medication.
