The Gary Community School Corp. announced last week it had been awarded an initial $800,000 Next Generation School Improvement Grant from the Indiana Department of Education to improve student outcomes at four elementary schools.
The planning year grant will be used to plan and pilot initiatives focused on personalized learning, leadership development and family engagement strategies at Beveridge, Daniel Hale Williams, Frankie Woods and Glen Park Academy during the 2025-26 school year.
Based on the planning year's success and completion of IDOE benchmarks, Gary schools will then be awarded a three-year implementation grant worth between $3 to $8 million, according to Director of Curriculum and Assessment Renita Craig.
