Utica, N.Y. — An Oswego County man was sentenced Tuesday to six years in federal prison for dealing cocaine and illegally possessing multiple firearms, federal prosecutors said.

James Hamilton, 42, of Central Square, admitted that between early 2021 and March 2022 he acquired more than four kilograms of cocaine that he either sold or intended to sell, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.

Hamilton also admitted to unlawfully possessing nine guns, including an AR-15-style rifle, to protect his drug supply and money, prosecutors said.

Senior U.S. District Judge David N. Hurd sentenced Hamilton to 72 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.
