WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — A new Texas Department of Public Safety training academy is coming to Williamson County.
DPS leaders broke ground on the project this week.
The new facility will be used to train new and current troopers, as well as local, state and federal law enforcement officers.
There will also be dormitories for up to 560 DPS recruits, nine classrooms, a cafeteria and indoor and outdoor fitness facilities.
In October last year, DPS announced the new training facility will be named the Steven C. McCraw Law Enforcement Academy and Training Center in honor of former DPS Director Steven McCraw. McCraw retired in November after 15 years as director as Freeman Martin took over in his place .
