FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The University of North Alabama kicked off the first day of classes with its annual 'Lucky Dip' event at Harrison Fountain.

The Lucky Dip is a yearly tradition to kick off the first day of classes at UNA.

Gibson Horner, a junior at UNA, says he loves the tradition at his school.

“I really take pride in our traditions on campus. It brings everyone together and makes UNA feel like home,” Horner said.

And for Journey Rhodes, a sophomore this year, the Lucky Dip brought a smile to her face.

“It brings absolutely good luck to everybody, it would bring a good tradition to the campus, and it just brings joy to everyone,” Rhodes said.

The Lucky Dip is exactly what it sounds like: students grab a pencil and dip into the iconic fountain in the heart of campus.
