BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Discretion is the better part of valor -- at least when it comes to restoring wetlands buffers, the Manatee County Commission decided Aug. 19.
At Tuesday’s meeting, county commissioners decided to cancel a hearing set for Aug. 21 to vote of whether to again require developers to create 50-foot buffers near wetlands, twice what the state requires.
Commission Chair George Kruse expressed concerns that restoring the buffers would run afoul of Senate Bill 250, which “prohibits counties and municipalities within 100 miles of Hurricane Ian or Hurricane Nicole landfall from adopting more restrictive or burdensome procedures to their comprehensive plans or land development regulations.” Local government officials that approve more restrictive rules could be subject t
