LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Lansing City Council members took to social media on Tuesday, sharing that they are no longer pursuing a policy requiring the use of city-operated trash removal services.
City Council President Ryan Kost says they failed to properly educate people on the topic before bringing it to the public.
“It’s very frustrating how expensive trash is for us in Lansing,” said Kost. “At the end of the day, we were just trying to make things better for Lansing residents. And the messaging just fell flat.”
The initiative was believed to block private waste management companies from providing services in the city. But Kost claims that’s not the case, and they just wanted to lower the cost for residents.
