LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Tony Sterner has been named the new starting kicker for University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL) football,
Sterner will taking over for last season's Lou Groza Award winner, Kenneth Almendares. Sterner, a redshirt junior, secured the position after a competitive fall camp, where he outperformed Logan Klotz and Brek Schultz. While Sterner will handle placekicking duties, Klotz will take over on the kickoff unit.
Sterner reflected on his preparation for the season and what he has learned from fall camp.
"I think camp was good for the most part," Sterner said. "We knew Kenny was leaving, and then Coach G was like, 'We're not bringing a transfer.'"
Sterner emphasized a shift in mentality as a key factor in winning the starting job.
Thanks for signing up!
