WACO, Texas (KWTX) - McLennan County says they are looking to increase their tax rare, after they have accomplished lowering it over the past several years.
The McLennan County Commissioner’s Court held a public hearing Tuesday evening to discuss the new proposed tax rate, looking to increase it by 1.5 cents.
According to McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, it would be “like a 47 dollar increase per year on a home at $278,000, so that’s based on 1.5 cents for every 100-dollar value.”
On top of technological upgrades for county operations, the county must accommodate for state unfunded mandates, which increases costs at the local level.
Felton says the additional revenue is needed to help the county maintain their jails and keep their staff.
