Matt Carreiro’s life changed forever last month. On Saturday, July 26, the lifelong Tiverton resident suffered what was described as a “life-altering” spinal cord injury and has since undergone major surgery to stabilize his neck and relieve compression from the spinal cord. Now, his sister-in-law, niece and nephew have started a GoFundMe to help Matt’s family through the difficult time.

“I knew it had been a bit hard on my aunt and uncle and I just wanted to find a way to help raise money in any way possible,” Jacob Chouinard, who started the GoFundMe with his mother, Liz and his sister, Julia, said. As of Tuesday, the effort has raised nearly $43,000.
