Westport resident Keith Dias has renewed his effort to force the recall and replacement of selectman and planning board member Manuel Soares Jr., following his arrest Monday evening at Westport Town Hall.

Soares, 63, was arrested by Westport police shortly before the board’s 6 p.m. regular meeting was set to begin. Charged with violating an abuse prevention order, he was held overnight at the Ash Street Jail in New Bedford and on Tuesday was ordered held until his next court appearance in late September.

Soares also faces four unrelated counts of trespassing and one each of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct out of Dartmouth, and has been arrested by police in that town four times since April. He was held for about three weeks last month on those charges at the Brist
