MUNSTER — The Munster Fire Department and BP are investigating reports of an odor near inactive pipelines in the southwest corner of the Cobblestones subdivision.
Emergency responders discovered a sheen — the shiny appearance of water caused by petroleum products mixed with it — in the area during their investigation on Tuesday, according to a news release.
Response crews have deployed absorbent booms, which soak up liquid, to contain and collect the sheen, working alongside local authorities to pinpoint its source. Air monitoring is in place as a precaution, and no elevated readings have been detected so far, BP said.
