WILLIAMSPORT — The state Department of Environmental Protection had issued a violation notice 10 days before approximately 16,000 gallons of an oily substance were discharged from a tank in a closed Williamsport facility.
That was revealed Wednesday in an order DEP issued to Eureka Resources after Sunday night’s incident.
One of the violations the agency said it found during an Aug. 1 inspection at the facility, located in the 400 block of Second Street, was the high-level alarm system on the tank was inoperable.
Eureka had been issued a notice of violation Aug. 7 that covered all the violations found during the inspection, DEP says.
In its Wednesday order, DEP concluded the violations, including those related to the discharge, constitute unlawful conduct and a statutory nuisance.
