Suburban man kidnapped, bound woman with electrical cords

A suburban man accused of kidnapping and binding a woman with electrical cords before violently assaulting her was found guilty by a jury Wednesday.

Darnell L. Rhodes, 34, of Elgin, was found guilty by a jury Wednesday for an aggravated kidnapping and assault that left a woman with extensive injuries, including numerous stab wounds and both eyes swollen shut.

In March 2023, Rhodes and two other men "kidnapped and violently assaulted a woman they knew," authorities said.

The men threatened the victim with a knife and drove her to one of their residences, where they bound her with electrical cords to confine her, authorities said.
