NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board announced Wednesday that a turbine that services the city is down during peak hurricane season.
According to the S&WB, Turbine 5 is out of service and is not expected to be repaired for another two weeks. Advertisement
The turbine experienced an issue with a faulty temperature sensor, and the issue is limited to one section of the control system.
The S&WB says there is no further indication of damage to the turbine.
The utility says it does have enough power to pump floodwaters at peak capacity and will use Turbine 4, frequency changers, and backup generators to distribute power to drain the city.
This comes as the S&WB's new power complex has been delayed due to an issue found during testing.
