TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – There are gruesome details behind why investigators believe two men shot and dismembered an Army veteran in Taos County, and court documents suggest the man accused of pulling the trigger has no remorse.
Matthew McLaughlin, 25, an Army veteran from Virginia, was reported missing on July 31 by his mother. KRQE News 13 has learned by that point, McLaughlin had already been dead for nearly a week. "You know, I think all of us were, were in a bit of a shock. We kind of had an idea of where this case may go based on where things were leading us, but I think the end result, that turn was unexpected. We didn't expect that at all," said Undersheriff Gabriel Ortiz in an interview on Monday.
