BIG HORN COUNTY, Wyo. — The search for a missing Minnesota man who was hiking in Wyoming has reached a heartbreaking end.

Grant Gardner , of Lakeville, was hiking in the Mistymoon Lake area. He last contacted his wife on July 29 when he summited Cloud Peak, saying it was more difficult than expected. He hasn't been seen or heard from since.

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that they are suspending the active search and rescue operation for Gardner, saying “we have to face the reality that the most optimistic survival odds have run out.”

Search and recovery efforts will begin as “time and evidence allow.”
