DERIDDER, La. (KALB) - DeRidder Mayor Michael D. Harris is marking his first 100 days in office. The city’s first Black mayor said the start of his administration has come with challenges, but also progress.
Harris took office just under 100 days ago after winning by 10 votes . He said the community has rallied behind him despite the ups and downs.
“It’s been a lot. It’s been challenging. But overall, I’m thankful that the people have really circled the wagons around me,” Harris said.
The mayor has made transparency a focus, often engaging directly with residents on social media . He said it’s part of rebuilding trust in the office.
“People began to lose faith, began to lose confidence in the mayor of the city,” Harris said. “So I took it on my shoulders to be in front of them,
