SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Two dozen Concho Valley residents are celebrating their first evening as American citizens after taking their oaths to become citizens on Aug. 20.
30 applicants from 13 countries took part in two naturalization ceremonies at the O.C. Fisher Federal Building downtown.
"One thing that was keeping me from it was I was told I'd have to give up my Canadian citizenship," said Bobby Miller, a Canadian who is now a United States Citizen. "So when I found out it was legitimate…I didn't have to give that up…I jumped on and seven months later, I'm a citizen."
Magistrate Judge John Parker from Abilene was the guest speaker, where applicants took their oaths as new American citizens.
