Residents are getting their first look at what a pedestrian mall could look like at George Floyd Square in south Minneapolis.
Floyd was killed at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020, George. The area has since been the site of a memorial and has been shut down to all traffic.
In March, city council members passed a legislative directive ordering the city’s public works department to evaluate the feasibility of a pedestrian mall concept on Chicago Avenue between 37th and 38th streets.
The plan would bar through traffic and would create a cul-de-sac and public plaza near what’s now known as The People’s Way at 3744 Chicago Avenue.
The city hosted a community open house on Tuesday to unveil the renderings and gather feedback. The plan
