DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) — Derby fire officials are urging residents to be cautious with air fryers after responding to three kitchen fires linked to the popular appliances this year.
The common factor in each case: the air fryer was sitting on a stove — either in use or being stored there — when it caught fire and damaged the kitchen.
The latest incident happened Wednesday in the 800 block of Westview Drive, where firefighters found an air fryer burning on a glass cooktop. Officials said the resident used a kitchen fire extinguisher and evacuated with their child before crews arrived to finish putting out the fire. Damage was limited, and no one was hurt.
In a social post, firefighters advised placing air fryers on a stable countertop with clearance, plugging them directly into a wall outlet
