LAWRENCE, Kan. (WDAF) -- University of Kansas students heard a powerful and sobering message about hazing on Wednesday night.

The Kansas Fraternity Landlord's League invited parents of a college student who died during a rush event at Penn State University in 2017. Since Tim Piazza's death, his parents say they've felt called to try to help eliminate a culture of hazing.

"This presentation tonight is in honor of our son Tim," Jim Piazza said, addressing about 1,000 students at KU's Lied Center Wednesday night.

Tim Piazza was a PSU sophomore who loved sports and video games, but not partying, according to his parents.

"He was funny, he was sweet, he was smart, he was athletic. Just no other way to say it, just a great guy," his mother, Evelyn, recalled.
