DARDANELLE, Ark. — A spillway at the Dardanelle Lock and Dam on the Arkansas River is stuck open and an effort to repair the gate and close it is ongoing, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

USACE said in a release Wednesday night that the gate got stuck after it was opened for routine maintenance Tuesday morning.

"When workers tried to lower the gate around 8:15 a.m., it would not move. The gate remains stuck in the fully open position despite repair attempts throughout the day," the release said, adding that crews currently believe the issue may be due to friction, heat expansion, or mechanical binding.

USACE public affairs officer Jay Townsend said teams were working all day to close the gate to no avail.
