WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The man accused of killing a Maui police officer was back in court Wednesday.
Clembert Kaneholani, 38, was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder for the shooting death of Officer Suzanne O in Paia last Friday.
At Wednesday’s preliminary hearing, the officer who fired back at the suspect took the stand.
Officer Mousa Kawas was overcome with emotion as he detailed what happened the night of the shooting.
He said he was responding to the terroristic threatening call with Officer O and several others.
Kawas remembered trying to find Kaneholani, and said he asked Officer O to check around the corner of a concrete block because he couldn’t see behind it.
That’s when Kaneholani allegedly opened fire.
