NEW ORLEANS — Two decades after Hurricane Katrina, a new generation of New Orleanians is telling the story of the storm — in their own words.
“Born After the Storm” is a new youth-produced podcast created at Be Loud Studios. The series features 15 local high school students who weren’t alive when Katrina struck, but who say the storm still shapes their lives, families, and communities.
Alex Owens, Executive Director and co-founder of Be Loud Studios, said the project was about giving young people space to be heard.
“Although they were born after the storm, they’ve inherited so much — through their family, through their community, or through the systems that changed after the hurricane,” Owens said. “We wanted to create space for young people to tell their story.”
