LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A family in Berea is picking up the pieces after losing their home to a fire on Monday.

Rachel Clous was at home when she began seeing smoke. She quickly got out of the home to try to bring her animals with her. However, one animal died in the fire.

The house that was once the hangout spot for the Clous-Hollaway family sits charred and empty on Wednesday. Eldest son Cameron Hollaway shares the moment when he learned his house was on fire.

“I got a call from a weird number and I didn’t answer it at first and there was a voicemail saying that our house had caught aflame,” said Hollaway.

Hollaway, an Army reservist, says a few things were saved from the fire.
