APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Appleton’s Common Council approved a controversial renovation project design along West Oklahoma Street on Wednesday.

The road will soon be re-paved, reducing the width of the roadway to 26 feet, while also removing several dozen trees along the street to do so.

Neighbors of the approved project were vocal in their opposition to the city’s decision to move forward with the reconstruction of West Oklahoma Street at Wednesday night’s meeting

Those neighbors submitted a petition with nearly 50 signatures on it before the meeting, asking for sufficient parking options on the street and the preservation of at least 13 trees that, with Wednesday night’s 8-to-4 vote, will be added to the 41 trees already expected to be taken down.
