PINE CITY, N.Y. (WENY) -- To become an Eagle Scout, candidates have to show their leadership skills with a service project. One 16-year-old girl is using hers to build a flagpole monument that blends patriotism, community, and service in Pine City.
For many scouts, like Taylor Degnan from Troop 43G, the Eagle Project is the biggest milestone on the path to earning the highest rank.
Degnan has spent months working to transform a patch of land outside Fresh Start Church in Pine City into something much bigger, an illuminated flagpole monument surrounded by a garden, meant to serve as a place of pride and reflection.
"That sounds like fun. It sounds like it could be really pretty, and they can design it how they want, and they could have different types of flags up there," said Degnan. "T
