The 2022 gubernatorial debate went from a discussion to a debacle.
Then-candidate Katie Hobbs refused to participate in a televised debate on Arizona PBS with her Republican opponent Kari Lake. That didn't mean that Lake wouldn't be allowed to appear just because her challenger declined.
Because Gov. Hobbs wouldn’t debate, the rules allowed Lake to have a one-on-one interview.
But things blew up when Hobbs revealed in a national TV interview that she, too, had her own one-on-one interview planned with Arizona PBS. And that it had the blessings from the top of Arizona State University, which houses Arizona PBS.
