A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was killed at her home in National City on Wednesday, police said.

National City police received a 911 call around 2:15 p.m. from a man saying he found his wife in a pool of blood and a stranger inside his house on East Division Street.

When officers arrived, the stranger jumped out of a second-story window and ran off, resulting in a short chase. The suspect, identified by police as 30-year-old Noel Trevino, was taken into custody at 500 East First Street.

Police returned to the home and found the woman in the kitchen with stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, officials said.

At this time, it's unclear if Trevino knew the victim. Police say Trevino will be booked in jail on charges of murder.
