PORTLAND, Ore. — The man who shot his girlfriend in the back outside of a Parkrose Heights apartment complex was sentenced to almost 30 years in prison.
On Tuesday, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Jenna Plank sentenced Richard David Simms Jr. to 29 years in prison for killing 40-year-old Nicole Lashawn Davis in 2023. Simms Jr., 32, was convicted on charges of first-degree manslaughter, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
On Nov. 22, 2023, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 4 p.m. outside of an apartment complex on Northeast Weidler Street, finding Davis dead at the scene.
