Blantyre Leisure Centre has closed for a month in the latest phase of South Lanarkshire’s major £2.74 million redevelopment of 13 of its facilities.
The facility on Glasgow Road shut its doors on Monday, with users being directed to the Jock Stein Centre in Hillhouse for rescheduled classes and to alternative gyms and swimming pools across the area for the duration of the works.
Officials say the project will also include “work to bring leisure and culture facilities together under one roof with the addition of library provision”, and calling it “a good first step towards creating a hub of activity and services for the Blantyre community”.
