A new poll is showing warning signs for former Vice President Kamala Harris — at home.
California Democrats prefer Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to Harris in a hypothetical 2028 presidential primary, POLITICO and its partners revealed on Wednesday.
The two leading voices in the Democratic Party have been floated as contenders for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. Newsom leads Harris, who has a long history in California politics, 25% to 19% among the state’s registered Democratic voters and Democratic-leaning independents, according to a POLITICO-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab survey .
Per the poll, 75% of registered Democratic voters said they are “excited” about a possible campaign from Newsom, while 67% said the same about Harris.
