ATLANTA — Hurston Waldrep struck out a career best-tying seven in seven innings as the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago White Sox 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Making just the fifth start of his career, Waldrep (4-0, 0.73 ERA) allowed just four hits and walked one.
He earned his first big-league win in the Speedway Classic on Aug. 3 with 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Cincinnati Reds at Bristol Motor Speedway in the completion of a game that had been suspended due to rain the day before.
The right-hander from the University of Florida has won his subsequent three starts against Miami, Cleveland and the White Sox.
Waldrep has 24 strikeouts in just 24 2/3 innings pitched this season.
