A new online petition is urging the UK Government to increase Carer’s Allowance from £83.30 per week to “at least £800”. The benefit, delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is typically issued every four weeks, which amounts to £333.20 each pay period.
A rise to £800 per week, would see nearly one million unpaid carers across the country receive £3,200 each month. It’s important to be aware that Carer’s Allowance has been replaced in Scotland by Carer Support Payment, which pays the same amount of money to those providing 35 hours of unpaid care to a friend, family member or neighbour.
