STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Hurricane Erin is expected to create significant coastal hazards for Staten Island on Thursday and Friday, with high surf, potential beach erosion and moderate coastal flooding. The National Weather Service has issued several advisories for the area, warning residents of dangerous conditions along the shoreline.

According to the weather service, Staten Island residents should expect increasing northeast winds throughout Thursday, with gusts potentially reaching 25 to 30 mph. The high surf advisory indicates wave heights could reach 9 to 13 feet, creating life-threatening conditions for beachgoers and potential erosion risks. A coastal flood advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday, with moderate flooding possible in southern areas of the city.
