DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) - Dietitians are providing school lunch tips to help students stay energized and focused, KCCI reports .

Younger children are more interested in eating colorful foods, such as a fruit kabob. Parents should also incorporate protein, fiber, and healthy fats, such as chips baked in avocado oil rather than sunflower oil. A fun lunch box, water bottle, and making time to try new foods can also help kids feel more excited about eating healthy.

“Another thing to worry about with schools is peanut-free,” said Hy-Vee dietitian, Payton Vest. “Sunflower butter is a great alternative to use that is allergen friendly.”
