GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Sylvan Heights Bird Park was busy this summer, but they’re ready to keep making a hoot into the school year!

Kat Lewandowski, an assistant educator at the bird park, and Autumn, a Black-bellied Whistling Duck who lived up to her name, stopped by our studio this morning to talk about the exciting opportunities available to students heading into the school year.

Autumn is fully grown and colored but will still be considered immature until she turns two.

Native to Central and South America, the Black-bellied Whistling Duck nests in tree cavities and can have upwards of ten to twelve in a single clutch, with both parents caring for them.

Sylvan Heights says now’s the opportunity for teachers to schedule school visits for their students.
