SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - After 88 years, International Paper in Savannah announced Thursday that it will be closing its doors at the end of September.
International Paper called the decision a series of strategic changes to achieve an advantaged cost position in a press release sent out by the company on Thursday morning.
The company celebrated 85 years in Savannah back in 2022 and has staffed thousands of locals during its almost nine decades of business.
According to reports, the closure is estimated to leave over 1,100 workers unemployed.
