GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kent County resident who was infected with West Nile virus has died, the health department announced Thursday.

It was the county's first human case this season. Officials did not immediately release the person's age, gender or name.

Earlier this summer, health officials found the virus in three different Kent County mosquito samples. One of those samples was collected just 3,000 feet away from where the person lived, according to the Kent County Health Department.
