Josh O’Connor stars in the debut trailer for his upcoming movie The Mastermind .

The film is directed by Kelly Reichardt , and features a cast including Alain Haim , Gabby Hoffman , John Magaro , Hope Davis , and Bill Camp .

Here’s the film’s synopsis: In a sedate corner of Massachusetts circa 1970, JB Mooney ( O’Connor ), an unemployed carpenter turned amateur art thief, plans his first big heist. When things go haywire, his life unravels.

The film had its debut earlier this year at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival , and was nominated for the prestigious Palme d’Or prize.

It will officially hit theaters on October 17, 2025 in the USA. If you’re international, the film will be debuting on October 24 in the UK, Canada & Ireland.
