TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an arson at a local cemetery.
Investigators with the agency’s arson unit responded to a fire that was intentionally set on Wednesday at Mountain View Memorial Park in Travelers Rest.
Deputies said the fire was started in a mausoleum and damaged multiple memorial markers and a granite statue.
Officials estimate repairs will cost more than $20,000.
“A careless and disrespectful act not only affected the memorial but all family members associated with the mausoleum,” deputies said in a Facebook post.
