An abandoned building opposite the Basford tram stop caught fire on Sunday

A Nottingham fire that caused considerable damage to a derelict building is thought to have been an arson attack, police have said. Emergency services were called following reports of a fire on Vernon Road, Old Basford , around 3.30pm on Sunday, August 17.

Firefighters soon managed to put out the blaze, which caused considerable damage but did not result in any injuries. A fire investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire, but Nottinghamshire Police have said investigators currently believe it was ignited deliberately.
