WAUKEE, Iowa —

The Waukee Community School District is celebrating its recognition as a Premier Community for Theatre Education by the Educational Theatre Association, marking a significant achievement in theater arts participation among its students.

Forty-seven percent of Waukee's sixth through 12th grade students participate in a theatre arts course or extracurricular. Waukee is the first district in Iowa to receive the award. To commemorate the honor, the district shared pictures of the auditorium in-progress. It will hold just under 1,000 people and be disability accessible. The auditorium space will open early 2026.
